OUR BEGINNINGS WERE HUMBLE
Born in a small western Colorado town and riding solo by age 2 1/2 (Yes, true story so stay tuned). BL learned to ride the steepest trails in the nation. At 9 years of age was trusted to ride in a 3 day/over night roundup of wild horses and the oldest on the ride was 12 years of age. BL worked in the orchards, picked rocks and shoveled many a ditch, learned to drive a tractor by 5 years old and disking with a dozer by 11. Worked in the oil field "when the west was wild" pioneered roads with a D-8 cat, worked at a coal mine, cowboyed, broken many bones (BLs nose to many times) shot and cut with a knife, had months of skin grafts, fought in bars, played pool and even skied in semi-pro events. Later worked in a large feedlot, managed a cattle ranch, and became the National Manager for a tractor manufacture. Operated an organic cherry orchard and honed roping skills while winning saddles and even a new truck. BLs greatest adventure was moving to Oregon with wife Jan to raise world champion Dobermans, coupled with the privilege and honor of taking care of Developmentally Disabled Adults.
Jan had a childhood that taught her independence at a very young age. Survival in nature, hunting and fishing was her up bringing. In her early teens she took a bus from Portland to a ranch in Southern Idaho where hard work (building muscles moving irrigation pipe) and riding horses (bareback requires great balance) made her a superior high school athlete. By 20 years old she had an unmatched eye for horses. She owned, trained and traded over 10,000 horses and mules as a young woman. Her breeding program is still talked about and continues winning across the Nation. It was this same passion to combine outstanding pedigrees that led her to the breeding program of Unique Dobermans that is known world wide.
Together we have worked side by side, and continue through thick and thin to ride side by side.
We moved to Colorado in 2022
